Mitchell Falls Wilderness Day Trek

Your journey begins bright and early at 7.00AM as you depart from Drysdale River Station on a  35-minute flight to the Mitchell Plateau airfield. From there, hop into a rugged 4WD for a scenic transfer to the starting point of the renowned Punamii-unpuu hiking trail.

Your adventure kicks off with a visit to the enchanting Little Mertens Falls. Take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear rock pools and admire the captivating Gwion Gwion rock art that adorns the cliffs below.

Continue your trek to the magnificent Big Mertens Falls, where you'll be greeted by the awe-inspiring views over the gorge. The Mitchell River crossing offers the perfect opportunity for a refreshing swim, and you’ll find the ideal rock ledge to savour a delicious picnic lunch, all while soaking in the stunning vistas of Mitchell Falls.

After exploring this natural paradise, it’s time to enjoy an exhilarating experience on a thrilling helicopter transfer, complete with a breath-taking loop around the majestic Mitchell Falls. Your adventure continues with a 30-minute 4WD journey back to the airfield, followed by a 35-minute scenic flight back to Drysdale River Station.

AVAILABILITY & BOOKING INFORMATION

Flights operate out of Drysdale River Station from May to August.

If booking within 24 hours of departure, please phone us for availability as you cannot book online or, if you are at Drysdale River Station please visit the Booking Centre.

All bookings will be confirmed once minimum numbers are met to operate the tour. If we are unable to immediately confirm your tour, the booking will be placed 'on hold' pending minimum numbers. Full payment is required at time of booking and if for some reason we are unable to confirm the tour or we do not meet minimum numbers to operate the tour, a full refund will be issued or an alternative date or guaranteed departure price will be offered. Following confirmation of the tour, if for some reason the tour falls below the minimum number of 4 required to operate, the tour will be placed on hold until minimum numbers are met.

We will respond within 48 hours to confirm your booking and departure time.

This flight and tour requires a minimum of 4 people. If the minimum of 4 passengers isn't met, 3 person ($1,430pp) and 2 person ($1,850pp) prices will be offered for a guaranteed departure.

Children classified as 3-12 years of age, $50 off the adult price. Infants 0-2 years of age travel free on the lap of a parent.

Flights are subject to weather.

CANCELLATION POLICY

No refund will apply for cancellations within 48 hours of the tour departure, we suggest taking out travel insurance in the event you may have to cancel at late notice. 3-7 days prior to departure will incur a 50% cancellation fee. For any cancellations prior to one week of travel, or any tour cancellations due to weather or any unforeseen circumstances, a full refund will be issued.

ADDITIONAL BOOKING NOTES

The Mitchell Falls walk is a Class 5 walk and requires a high level of fitness. Guests must acknowledge at time of booking that they understand that should they or anyone else on the booking be unable to continue with the walk or cancel on the day, no refund will be issued, and guests will be liable for any additional costs incurred.

For safety and operational requirements Air Kimberley observes a maximum individual weight of 120kg per person for all scenic tours. 

Adverse weather conditions may mean that the scheduled itinerary cannot proceed as intended. If adverse weather means that you are unable to complete the full tour, then any refund will be adjusted on a pro rata basis dependent on the flying time involved. 

If we are unable to complete a particular tour activity, a refund for the cost of that activity will be refunded. 

Following confirmation of the tour, if for some reason the tour falls below the minimum number of 4 required to operate, the tour will be placed on hold until minimum numbers are met.
